Holiday Season Decorating Tips – Once the calendar flips to December many households begin the task of decorating for the holiday season.

Here are some helpful tips:

Tip #1: Don’t stop at the entry

Take your holiday decor throughout the entire home. Simple small touches in other rooms of your home make a huge difference in the way the whole house feels, especially when you’re entertaining.

Rest your head surrounded by the holiday spirit, by laying garland in your bedroom or look to add a festive touch to your dining room with a winter flower arrangement, candle holders and holiday-inspired tablecloth. Bring some holiday flair into the kitchen by swapping out some of your everyday used items, such as plates, cups and utensils for ones with more holiday cheer.

Tip #2: Play with colours

Reds and greens are always popular colours to show off the festive spirit. Intertwine the colours with coordinating ornaments, pillows and presents to match. Tired of red and green? Try a more winter palette of icy blues and snow whites or rose golds and pinks for a more elegant and vintage look.

Tip #3: Get wrapping

Reuse interesting papers, bags, magazines and newspapers for gift-wrap. Make it interesting with a unique ribbon, topper or accent. If you want to be creative, draw a pattern on the paper with markers, pens or glitter.

Give your gifts the “wow” by wrapping them in wallpaper. With all the different designs available the design options are endless. Also, wallpaper is much stronger than regular wrapping paper, so there are never any issues with the paper tearing.

Don’t think that presents only belong under the tree. Use your nicely wrapped gifts as décor throughout the house, such as lining the staircase.

Tip #4: It doesn’t have to be expensive

Inexpensive ornaments from a discount store can look elegant and festive when grouped. For instance, decorate a mantel with various sizes of clear or coloured glass containers filled with similar coloured glass ornaments for a stunning holiday display. Add a twist to your holiday decorating by using geometric shapes.

Tip #5: Less is more

The holidays can be about extravagance, but if you overwhelm your home with too much decor it can compete for attention and distract you from some really beautiful and special pieces.

Tip #6: Involve family and friends

The holiday season is a time to be with friends and family, so don’t take on the holiday decorating duties all alone. Make memories by involving more people and the activity will be more memorable and joyous. Let kids decorate their room or give them a particular item to decorate. Decorating can also be made more personable by adding tags or names to stockings or even adding personalized wood letters to your theme.

Tip #7: Breathe and have fun

This time of year is really about getting to see the people you love, having a great time together and counting the blessings. Take a deep breath and enjoy it.
